The Winter So Far

Winter 2010/11 has certainly been one to remember for a lot of people. I know that our local community in Central Scotland have been hit extremely hard by the brutal weather of recent months, the horse owner very much included!

Our delivery team were pushed hard trying to keep supply of hay and feed going to the local yards. Sometimes this entailed sending our JCB out to clear the way in desperate circumstances. Some of these issues could have been easily avoided with the correct planning so I thought I’d give a few hints and tips on how to prepare for the bad weather.

The main problem we came across was a lack of adequate storage for fodder. It’s one thing to trudge through 3ft of snow carrying a bag of mix but when it’s 50 bales of hay that is needed it all becomes a bit trickier.
